Haley Hasselhoff is one of the most well-known plus size models in the world. She even claimed “Best Model” in 2014 at the British Plus Size Fashion Awards, and was dubbed by Yahoo! as one of the “11 Plus Size Models You Need To Know”. Daughter to actor David Hasselhoff, Hayley is a youth advocate for promoting a positive body image.
Hi Hayley! Thank you so much for speaking with Half Full. Congratulations on all of your success! First, how did you get into modeling?
I started when I was 14, kind of out of the blue. My dad’s publicist asked if they’d ever thought about putting me into plus-size modeling. Once I started, I found such a beauty in the art form and in a way it seemed to be just a different form of acting. At one point, I took six years off to focus on acting, but this past year I got back into it and it’s kind of skyrocketed since then.
How has body image affected you throughout your life? How has modeling hurt or helped your self-image?
Since I began modeling at the age of 14, I was given the opportunity to be around so many inspirational plus size models. That showed me that beauty and health comes in all shapes and sizes. I was very blessed to have been able to get that lesson at a young age. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t have bad days. I think it’s only normal to have bad days. But you need those days to get more connected with yourself and work through whatever thoughts may be hindering you.
How does your father feel about you being in the spotlight? Did he bring you around his fame growing up?
My father is very proud and happy that I am following my passions and dreams. Ultimately, he knows that fame comes with it. But he’s instilled in me that it’s all about your love for your craft. I’ve learned from growing up in the spotlight that having the privilege to follow your dreams is such a gift.
What are your favorite stores to shop at?
It depends on the season. I know I can always find something at Vince, Topshop or 3.1 Phillip Lim.
Name 3 fashion must-haves of yours.
A good leather purse, very durable to be thrown around. Leather legging pants I wear as my everyday jeans. A good blazer. I’m obsessed with my leather trimmed Australian designer Carla Zampatti blazer.
Half Full is all about positivity. We call it a “half full attitude”. What is your advice to living life with a Half Full Attitude?
I’m a firm believer that beauty comes from positivity. Love deeper. Live to see and not to be seen. Listen with the intent to understand not respond.
